Riversdale Athletics Club Makes Its Mark at the 2023 Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships

The RIVA youth track and field team head to the championships

Sherbrooke, QC – The spirit of competition was palpable in the air as six athletes from the Riversdale Athletics Club took to the track and field at the prestigious 2023 Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships. Showcasing their talents in various events, each athlete made a name for themselves through their incredible performances. This year’s championship event, held in Sherbrooke, Quebec, brought together the most promising young athletes from across the nation, and Riversdale's representatives did not disappoint.

Outstanding Female Athletes Steal the Spotlight

In an awe-inspiring display of grit and determination, two of Riversdale's female athletes captured the audience's attention with Top 10 finishes. Naysa Woods set the pace in the U16 2000m race, showing an exceptional level of skill and technique. Not to be outdone, Katie Rogers raced her heart out in the U18 3000m event, leaving an indelible impression on spectators and competitors alike.

The streak of extraordinary performances didn't end there; Adrianna Schmidt also landed in the Top 10 with her U16 high jump. Schmidt's feat only solidified Riversdale Athletics Club's standing as a force to be reckoned with in the world of youth athletics.

Men’s Team Shows Promise for the Future

Yerosen Daba, another star athlete from Riversdale, left his mark in the U18 1500m event. His continued dedication to training over the past two years has proven fruitful, allowing him to compete on the national stage for the second consecutive year. Clearly, Daba is a rising star, and one we should all keep our eyes on.

But the male athletes weren't done turning heads just yet. Sam Andrew and Preston Dodge both qualified for the U18 2000m Steeplechase. Competing in only their second season, the dynamic duo demonstrated grit and determination against a field filled with seasoned athletes, reinforcing the notion that Riversdale's male athletes are up-and-coming talents in the world of youth track and field.

Words from the Head Coach

Head Coach RossAnn Edwards could not have been more proud of how the Riversdale athletes performed on the national stage. "Their exceptional sportsmanship and sheer dedication make me incredibly proud to be their coach," Edwards said. "I can't wait to bring even more Riversdale athletes to the Legion Championships next year."

A Testament to Hard Work and Dedication

As the sun set on this year’s Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships, one thing was clear: Riversdale Athletics Club's athletes are shining examples of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a bit of competitive spirit. With performances like these, we can only expect greater things in the years to come.
